Jake Paul v Mike Tyson: Taylor v Serrano boxing rematch given fight date as co-main event

Light-welterweight world champion Katie Taylor has called her second fight against Amanda Serrano “the rematch the world has wanted to see” after it was confirmed as the co-main event for Jake Paul’s bout with Mike Tyson.

Puerto Rican Serrano, 35, will step up in weight to attempt to avenge her defeat in an epic lightweight contest in 2022 when the pair meet at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium on July 20.

“The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing,” said Taylor, who won by split decision.

“I’m sure the rematch will be no different. I’m looking forward to defending my titles as undisputed world champion.”

Serrano claimed she had wanted the fight to consist of 12 three-minute rounds but 37-year-old Taylor had insisted it should be 10 rounds of two minutes.

“She’s the champ, so that is what we will do,” she added. “I believe I won our first fight but I didn’t get the decision.

“This time I’m not leaving it to the judges. No more sweet Serrano. War mentality activated.”

Taylor v Serrano ‘dream come true’

Taylor moved up to light-welterweight after beating Serrano but was beaten for the first time in her career in May 2023 against Chantelle Cameron, who she defeated in a rematch in November to become a two-weight undisputed champion.

Seven-weight world champion Serrano recovered from the second loss of her career by becoming undisputed champion at featherweight.

“I promised my fans they would see this rematch after we made history,” said Serrano. “It feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I are finally making it happen on the biggest stage possible to show the world what elite women’s boxing is all about.

“While my focus continues to be on giving women the choice to fight with the same rules as men, I’ve always said that this is the one fight I’d go back to 10×2 for.”

The setting for the scrap is usually the home of NFL team the Dallas Cowboys and has a capacity of 80,000, putting it among the 20 largest stadiums in the USA.
