Cheltenham Festival 2024: Cross Country Chase called off due to rain

Today’s Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham has been cancelled due to a waterlogged track.

The race, scheduled to get underway at 1610 on day two of the festival, will not be rescheduled after heavy rain on Tuesday.

The Cross Country Chase takes place on a different track to the other races which are unaffected, although they have each been put back by 15 minutes in a revised schedule.

A Cheltenham spokesperson said: “Following 11mm of rainfall throughout yesterday, there has been no improvement in the conditions on the Cross Country Course and with areas of the track unraceable, the Cross Country Chase has sadly been abandoned.

“The forecast for the remainder of the week continues to look unsettled, with further showers likely on both Thursday and Friday.

“There will therefore be insufficient improvement to the Cross Country Course by Friday, and the decision has been taken not to reschedule the race.”

The big race of day two is the Betway Queen Mother champion Chase, which now starts at 1600.
