The UK’s push for smart meter implementation witnessed a robust 30% increase in January 2024, with energy suppliers completing a notable 221,000 installations.
This leap signifies a 21% rise compared to January of the previous year, reaching heights not observed since January 2020, ElectraLink reports.
This resurgence in new meter installations is recognized as a significant recovery, marking the most substantial January figures post the Covid-19 induced disruptions.
The report also recalls a significant downturn in April 2020, when installations were restricted to 12,000 due to the pandemic-related social distancing guidelines.
Since the initiation of the smart meter program in 2012, ElectraLink records a grand total of 22.48 million installations. The January statistics saw the usual frontrunners in installation numbers, with East England achieving 27,000 installations, southern England at 25,000, and the East Midlands with 21,000.
