Assystem’s Bold Move: Creating 500 New Jobs in the UK’s Energy Sector

In a significant boost to the UK’s energy sector, Blackburn-based engineering and digital services leader, Assystem, has unveiled ambitious plans to create more than 500 new jobs throughout 2024. This announcement comes as a robust response to the government’s push for new nuclear projects, aiming to secure nuclear power as a foundational pillar of the UK’s energy mix by 2050, contributing to 25% of the nation’s energy needs.

Assystem’s initiative goes beyond mere numbers; it’s a call to arms for those passionate about driving the energy transition forward. The company is casting its net wide, seeking to attract diverse talent across various roles – from fresh-faced graduates to seasoned engineers, project managers, data scientists, and support services professionals. This recruitment drive stretches across the nation, with positions available in Assystem’s regional offices in Bristol, Culham, Derby, Glasgow, London, Sunderland, Warrington, and Westlakes, showcasing the national ambition of this effort.

This move is propelled by Assystem’s active involvement in a spectrum of new and ongoing projects, including pivotal roles in new nuclear ventures like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, groundbreaking fusion power projects, and key infrastructure initiatives with Network Rail. The company’s strategic expansion is in direct response to the urgent need for a skilled technical workforce capable of delivering on the UK’s ambitious decarbonisation and energy independence goals.

Vicky Proctor, Assystem’s Chief People Officer in the UK, highlighted the transformative nature of this initiative, stating, “Assystem is at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition programme that concerns new low-carbon power and transportation and infrastructure.

“The new low-carbon technology that is being developed in the UK is leading-edge work that is creating exciting career pathways for technical specialists and professionals working in the support teams that orbit this great industry.”

As the UK strides towards a greener future, Assystem’s recruitment drive is poised to inject a new lease of life into the energy sector, offering a beacon of hope and opportunity for those eager to contribute to the nation’s energy revolution. With over 500 jobs on the horizon, Assystem is not just powering up the UK’s energy landscape but is also powering up careers, setting the stage for an exciting era of growth, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
