The father of murdered PC Nicola Hughes accepted a donation towards her memorial fund from the Rotary Club of Saddleworth.
Bryn Hughes (pictured) attended Saddleworth Police Station on Thursday to receive £200 from the Rotary Club’s Clint Elliott and sergeant Connor Brook of the Saddleworth and Lees Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).
The rotary offered to make a donation to a charity of the team’s choice following the NPT’s presence at the annual Saddleworth Wellifest held at Well-i-Hole Farm.
The team had no hesitation in choosing the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.
Sergeant Brook (pictured) said: “It is our privilege to have this donation made to the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.
“The donation is made in honour and tribute to colleagues tragically taken from us in the line of duty.”
Murdered in the line of duty
PC Nicola Hughes – along with her colleague Fiona Bone – were murdered on duty by Dale Cregan in 2012.
Cregan – who at the time was wanted for two other murders – had made a 999 call to police reporting that someone had thrown a lump of concrete through his window in Mottram, Greater Manchester.
Using a false name, he lured the unarmed officers to the house on Abbey Gardens where he lay in wait with a Glock pistol and a hand grenade.
PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund
The Saddleworth-based PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund was set up in 2014 to provide assistance to anyone under 21 years old who has suffered the loss of a close family member through violent crime, by providing funding or services for education or employment.
The charity continues to support young people suffering from the devastating effects of fatalities resulting from serious and violent crime.
